Seeds Of Success
Staff and students at Park Lodge Greenhouses in Southport are just as colourful as the flowers and plants they grow.
The Rotten Row site is run by Sefton Social Services for adults with learning disabilities. Every day at least 12 students get involved in all aspects of running the greenhouses from planting seeds, cultivating flowers and selling plants to customers
Park Lodge has recently jopined forces with Halsall based Syngenta Seeds Ltd. The company provides free seeds for Park Lodge to cultivate and have also decked out staff and students in colourful T- shirts to wear while at the greenhouses.
Staff and students are currently entering their busiest time of the year and expect to sell more than 200 hanging baskets during the next couple of months. Customers can also bring in their own hanging baskets and students will fill them with the customer's own choice of flowers.
Day centre officer Carl Craven said, "Over the years we have formed a special relationship with Syngenta Seeds and the quality of the plants they give us is excellent."
Park Lodge at Victoria Park, Rotten Row is open from 9am-4pm during the week and 9.30am-3pm at weekends.
